I have the coolest privileged ever. Because I am one of Provoke! Magazine (an awesome ALL FREE magazine for high schooler) representative, I got a free invitation to watch the movie “Modus Anomali” by the one and only Joko Anwar.

In his 4th film, Joko Anwar as the director and writer deliver such chills and thrills. I can safely say that the twist in this movie is so sick and undeniably twisty in an uncomfortable way, this makes the list of ‘Much Watch Movie. Like for Real’ Because I’ve got to watch the movie before its nation’s release, I cannot tell ya’ll. I don’t want to be a spoiler and because it will not be the same if you already know the twisty witty end. All I can say is do not watch this film alone because you’ll be wanting to talk about it with someone, then do remind yourself to breathe because with the high tension in this epic motion picture, sometimes you just get caught up in the moment. We can blame the music director for this! There’s a great amount of silence in this movie that’ll make you think ‘okay, what’s next?’ but the music, when it does start, will make you say ‘No, Goddamit, NOO! I’m not ready for the next scene.’ You would also want to bring something to cover up the eye when there’s a wicked scene coming. And a lot of brains because this isn’t a kind of movie you watch ‘just for fun.’ The best part is, it’s an entire journey of a man’s mind. When you think you know what’s going on, YOU JUST DON’T.
When it came down to the Q and A session, this is what I got from Mr. Anwar:
- He doesn’t know where he got the inspiration, “I was tortured as a little kid.” and then he laughed. He also said “[I] spent too much time in the toilet [to get the inspiration.]
- The alarm clock is actually a reminder to him, if he’s going too far from his game. (Too far for what game? you just gotta see.
Some awesome facts:
- Modus Anomali receive Bucheon Award in South Korea.
- Had a world premiere at South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), USA in March 2012.
- This is a low budget film aaand….
- Will be released in Indonesia in the 26th of April. so go grab a movie partner NOW!

alright folks, as I said once earlier I did see the movie The Raid (‘The Raid: Redemption’ known in America). This is how it goes: guns-hand combat-blood-hiding-hand combat-hardcore hand combat-blood-more hardcore hand combat-end. Overall, it was awesome to see how Indonesian movie got to be in American box office. This action pack movie got a twist in the end of the movie that, when it happened, I said “Whaaat?” Generally, it is violent and bloody with a bit of stabbing here and there. It’s not disgusting (in my opinion, anyway) but yeah, it is a violent movie. Director Gareth Evans has

successfully lead the actors who are also a Pencak Silat athletes (one of Indonesia’s many martial arts) to portray the character well. Not only that, the effect that he uses are so real and new to Indonesian films that it captures a lot of great moments. Although, 98% of the movie is about the fighting, this movie also depict religious devotion, loyalty and sentimental family love which is a good ‘break’ from all the dead bodies. I say, as a movie enthusiast that I DO LOVE this action movie. But as a citizen of Indonesia, I say this brings so much pride and to me is like a breath of fresh air to the movie industry. KUDOS!

Need I say more about the title? No wonder it gets 2 nomination in the Academy Awards. It is a movie directed by Stephen Daldry based on a novel by Jonathan S. Foer about Oskar Schell, a boy that is trying to find a lock for a key he found in his
dad’s closet after he died. The key belong to a certain ‘Black’ surname and as Oskar tries to find what’s the connection between the Black family and the puzzle his dad left for him, he encountered many people in New York with their stories,
invented many ways to find the lock and overcome his fears only to make sense of everything that had happened to his dad. Based on the tragic 9/11 tragedy, this movie is poetic, charming and touching. Many focuses on the horrible things that came with the tragedy but as I continue watching, this 1 hour and a half movie main message for me was how this tragedy turns people’s heart into a more loving and empathetic place. How the loved ones are never far

from the heart even though they’re gone and not coming back. About the willingness of people to comfort others even though it’s only a small thing that they’re doing. Beside the moral values, I also think that the screenplay was smart, the characters are portrayed beautifully, and that it was a movable journey. Overall, this bring tears to my eyes. Brava!
3 movies to start the middle of the week, randomly I watched these movies and I’m instantly in love with the setting, angle and the technique their using while shooting. Well, without further or do, I present….
ANOTHER EARTH

To me, the most artistic part of this movie is the way they take the shots. It’s magical and enchanting but also real. The story line itself is deep and different. A little summary; Rhoda was just 17 when her can crash on another car and killed a whole family. When she came out from jail, she figured out that the father isn’t dead and she’s trying to make up her mistake but ended up losing her guts. In her effort of escaping earth and reality, she entered a contest to win a trip to earth II. Now if you’re an indie lover like myself, this movie is a must. It’s beautiful.
TREE OF LIFE

BluRay is now my new best friend, and HD too of course. Because they always add

the excitement in movie experience. Tree of Life is a poetic movie that took mybreath away with its ambient. A family with a regular family problem living a regular life. A simple idea but that’s where the art is. When you translate a, what seems to be an ordinary thesis, into a personal message. it’s very much like a poetry. Anyway, I couldn’t judge this picturesque movie because this is that kind of movie where you have to experience the meaning yourself.
ONE DAY

This is personal to me, I thought at first this is gonna be another romance story. A little comedy, a little tears, a lot of romance kissy kissy scene. but I was wrong. The relationship between Emma and Dexter is like no other I’ve seen, it’s close to Harry and Sally but not similar. A little summary; Em and Dex met after a
graduation party, they begin as a romantic friends but continue on as just friends.Every year for 20 years on one day (15th july) they somehow always cross one another. They have moments where they live a different life but in short, they’ve always needed each other. Until one day, they realize, they are meant for each other. To me, what makes this movie so romantic in its own way, the setting of time and place of course, and that platonic love. the best kind of love. Best line was when Dex said ‘I’m just better when you’re around’ likewise here, Dex. I am just better when that best friend of mine is around.

October, october, october. That time of year when scary is fun and vampires are once again suck. So yeah, I’ve always been this anti-horror lady but I never said that I dislike thriller and suspense. Heck, I love mummies, mysteries, murder and unsolved crimes. Though it’s safe so say I’m not into ghosts and paranormal thingy. I mean, why be scared for something that aren’t even real or visible. Aren’t you more afraid of, let’s say, a bumble bee. A whole swarm of it buzzing towards you. Or your friendly neighbor who happens to have a well groomed collection of chain saw and saber? Ah yes, those unsolved questions and inquiries. Well, I’ve got just the theme. Sounds cliche but Alfred Hitchcock took my heart away with his trailer of Psycho, and since noir colors are more thrilling and exciting, I will watch at least 3 of his noir films and let’s see if I can continue with 2 others. Oh and yes, I will watch all of them in flat screen TV. Let the scream begin!!
August fiesta!
hi! happy people of planet earth :) it is near holiday season here in Indonesia, therefor I challenge myself to a 10 days 10 movies fiesta!! if you already read my previews posts then you have no doubt in saying that I am a movie freak (except for horror, unfortunately) and this will be not so much of a challenge but also fun. I’ll be giving small reviews, giving rates and telling you the WOW and NO factors of the movies also the after effect when I’m finish watching the movie. I’ll be presenting my work in another page called ‘funbox’ above, so check back everyday (at around 8 p.m WIB) to see what I watched that day. Isn’t this fun?
It is saturday and for your enjoyment only, I will be giving you not 1 but 2 ‘back-to-the-70s’ movie based on Agatha Christie’s novels. No need to explain any further, because if you know her then you’ll probably have figured out who’s the main character. Which is of course, M. Hercule Poirot. The smart Belgian detective is, unfortunately, wasn’t accompanied by his loyal sidekick, Hastings in both films. Here he is, in the popular movie called
Death on the Nile
if you’re a fanatic towards Mrs. Christie’s books, you would probably have already read this the book, and thank God, I got the movie with a good quality picture (you know, for an old motion picture). Anyhow, in this Egypt background movie, Poirot was meant to go on a vacation but stumble upon some eccentric characters the night before his departure to Egypt. One person in particular is Misses Lynette Doyle. A great looking lady from America who was recently married to Simon Doyle. The twist is this, there’s one girl who has been following their honeymoon journey and her name was Jacqueline de Bellefort. But why is she following them? Why does she has a gun? (olala!) and yes, the Egyptian journey of fun turns into a night of terror when Jacqueline shot Simon’s leg and the next day, Mrs. Doyle was found dead.
