It is indeed my first tumblr spotlight. And today we’re going to discuss about how birds can actually get you flying. One particular bird I’m talking about is DreamBirds clothing line. In this special edition I’ll be writing once a month, I want to dedicate at least one post about someone who inspires me. As a sense of gratitude and to let you (who ever inspires me) know that “Hey, I’m inspired by you” so let’s not wait any longer. Here is my interview with Abinara (24). the owner, creator and man behind the nest of DreamBirds clothing line.

Abin, what can you tell us about the beginning of DreamBirds?

First of all, I enjoy drawing monsters and birds since I was in junior high school but come to think of it, I want to make something out of my drawing so that the world can see it. So I start asking people how to make my own clothing line and I got some experience from my job in one of the clothing line in Tebet, Jakarta. In the year 2009, my girlfriend, Prisa and I, we started this clothing line and our vision is to make it as different and exclusive as possible; hence the idea of limited edition was born. The name itself came because I have high hopes that someday this brand will be known worldwide and coincidentally I love owls, then DreamBirds came into my mind. The essence of DreamBirds is to fly high with your dreams.

In Jakarta itself, there’s hundreds of clothing line. How does DreamBirds compete with the others?

We try our best to present our utmost originality by showing the process and how the clothes are made. The majority of brands here are just brands. They don’t display who owns the brand or how the mechanism behind the brand is whilst we upload pictures about the process from the drawings, stencil printing, packaging. That is basically what makes us different. We bring the journey of DreamBirds to the brand.

Who is your inspiration for this clothing line?

Oh man, there’s a lot but, this might sound like a drama, if I have to be honest, it’s my girlfriend

If the sales is good, would you consider to add your clothing sale quota?

We’re making 50 pieces per edition yet soon we’ll be making 100; but I’ll stay there cause I still want the limited edition atmosphere. Exclusivity is a must.

It have reach our radar that DreamBirds is in demand, in your opinion, what’s the cause of it?

Our vision and mission is we want Indonesian citizen to be more appreciative towards art, want them to realize that art is important, foremost because all we have here is politics. I think that we finally managed to, gradually, embed the idea of there are so much fun out there besides politic; that you too, can be positive with only a stitch of clothing. I think that the folks are getting the same thought as me. A thought that we have to have dreams, something to hold on to and future. I feel like people starts to cherish art.

You must have other dreams beside DreamBirds, what are they?

It’s a little bit off of what I do now, this was actually my previous dream before DreamBirds. I wanted to be a chef in a hotel. I love cooking; in cooking it’s like there’re thousands of possibility. I like the idea of mixing stuff and making something out of it. Hopefully that do not preclude the possibility of having DreamBirds Resto one day, Amin.

From all the people that you know, who is the most supportive?

Personally, for DreamBirds, I consider all the buyer very supportive and that means they appreciate my art.

What is your future dreams for DreamBirds?

I hope that people will spread more positive aura from DreamBirds. I want to make a positive community whereas that community can transmit good vibe to fix our country. After this country I hope to have impact to the world. A positive propaganda. I wish to make war and drugs disappear. Live in peace.
